Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As my second year of study at the seminary ends and it is time for me to take advantage of new opportunities in my education, Alison and I will be leaving all of you at Gethsemane. Beginning in July, I will embark on a year-long internship at
Redeemer Lutheran Church in east Columbus. Working full-time as an intern at Redeemer, I will have the opportunity to dive more deeply into church life and leadership. Although Alison and I are quite excited about the new experience of internship ahead, I must confess that we are also quite sad to be leaving the community that we have come to call home with all of you here at Gethsemane. We'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you for inviting us into your lives and for letting us walk through the ups and downs of the last year and a half with you. Your open hearts have been so welcoming to us, and we have witnessed God doing some truly amazing things among you and through you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my faith and my experiences with you through conversations and worship leadership. Twice now, I've found myself preaching about love, but it wouldn't have been the same if I hadn't been talking about the love I've seen among all of you. Thank you for allowing me to learn from you, both through your words and your actions. I pray that God continues to bless this congregation and that our paths will cross again sometime in the future.
God's peace,
Michael Kern

Health Ministry Team Renews Covenant
We recently renewed Gethsemane’s Health Ministry Program Covenant with Ohio Health/Church Partnerships. This partnership serves our congregation in several ways. It recognizes that congregations are vital places for serving basic health and wellness needs of many in the community. Health and wellness programs and instruction materials are available. Five years ago Church Partnerships provided instruction for healthy eating, weight control, and exercise, including dinners, at no cost to our members in the ‘Doin’ the Right Healthy Thing’ program.
There are monthly information meetings for HMT
leaders. Health professionals receive continuing education units for attending. Emilie Hagerdorn, R.N., who does monthly blood pressure checks for members, benefits.
Church Partnerships provides focus for ministry to our ill and homebound members. We visit and take communion to the sick and homebound, drive people to appointments, and provide some meals. This service aids those in need, exemplifies Christian love , and spares our pastor’s time.
Funding for Church Partnerships is based on reports to them of our health-related services to members. Please complete a Health Ministry report form if you aid one of our members in need in any way. Forms are located near the mail boxes.
Join your Gethsemane friends for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social (dessert BEFORE dinner!!) immediately following the service on Sunday, July 23rd. Ice cream and toppings will be provided. Watch the bulletin for additional details in the coming weeks.
