DESCRIPTION:Christian Worship Over Two Thousand Years: Continuities and Revolutions \nHow has Christian worship stayed the same—and how has it been radically transformed—over the last two thousand years? In this engaging class\, Rev. Dr. Arnie Klukas will explore the deep continuities of Christian worship from the early church through the medieval period\, highlighting how core elements of the liturgy endured even when worship became something largely observed rather than actively shared by the laity. He will trace key movements and pioneers who began to imagine a more participatory church leading up to Martin Luther. On 2/22\, I (Pastor TJ) will then pick up the story from the Reformation to the present day\, examining how Luther’s reforms reshaped worship and how those changes continue to influence contemporary liturgy. Together\, this class invites participants to see Christian worship as both rooted and reforming—ancient and alive!

DESCRIPTION:Christian Worship Over Two Thousand Years: Continuities and Revolutions \nHow has Christian worship stayed the same—and how has it been radically transformed—over the last two thousand years? In this engaging class\, Rev. Dr. Arnie Klukas will explore the deep continuities of Christian worship from the early church through the medieval period\, highlighting how core elements of the liturgy endured even when worship became something largely observed rather than actively shared by the laity. He will trace key movements and pioneers who began to imagine a more participatory church leading up to Martin Luther. On 2/22\, I (Pastor TJ) will then pick up the story from the Reformation to the present day\, examining how Luther’s reforms reshaped worship and how those changes continue to influence contemporary liturgy. Together\, this class invites participants to see Christian worship as both rooted and reforming—ancient and alive!

Together we will practice what Womanist biblical scholar Renita Weems calls “re-reading for liberation”\, learning how curiosity\, honesty\, and justice can open new possibilities for meaning. The bible may be weird\, but that doesn’t mean we have to toss it out. Instead\, we can explore how wrestling with scripture can inspire hope\, empathy\, and a yearning for justice in the world today.
