If you plan to get your license on a day that is near a holiday, it would be wise to check ahead and see when and if the offices will be open.

Bride and groom must appear together when applying for the license. (Only one party must be present to pick up the license.) You must bring with you:

  1. An Ohio driver’s license or valid I.D. as proof of residency in the county in which you are making the application. At least one of you has to live in that county.
  2. If under the age of 18, a parental consent must be obtained. Between the ages of 18-22 you must provide proof of age (birth certificate).
  3. Cash only for the license fee, and must be paid at the time of application: Franklin County — $40.00 ($4.25 parking)

The license should be obtained within 60 days of the time of the wedding. There is a 5-day waiting period for processing of the marriage license.

If the bride is under 18, both parents must give their consent for the license to be issued.

If the groom is under 18, the judge must give his consent.

If either have been married previously you must bring in all prior divorce information and a certified copy of the most recent divorce decree. In the event of a death of a former spouse, a death certificate is required.

Blood tests or physicals are not a requirement in the State of Ohio under usual circumstances.
