Book Group

The Gethsemane Book Group meets Tuesday, June 30, at 7:00pm in the church library to discuss the book The Happiest Man on Earth: The Beautiful Life of an Auschwitz Survivor by Eddie Jaku. This book is the inspiring memoir of Eddie Jaku, born in 1920 in Leipzig, Germany, into a Jewish family. As a teenager, his life was shattered during Kristallnacht in 1938, when he was beaten, arrested, and sent to concentration camps including Buchenwald and Auschwitz, enduring seven years of extreme hardship, forced labor, and a death march during the final days of the Third Reich. Despite losing his family, friends, and homeland, Eddie survived and vowed to smile every day in gratitude for life and to honor the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis.
